Putnam at 80
Just back from the great PutnamFest at UCD in Dublin! One of the many highlights was a roundtable discussion on externalism with Putnam, Kripke and Burge (and Devitt as chair). Unfortunately, all of the three denied that they are externalists -- or at least they did not like to refer to themselves as "externalists". But the crucial question is: Is it up to them to decide who is an externalist and who isn't? One probably could make a case that they count as experts on the subject and so we, the simple-minded folk, just have to defer....:-)
Here I have some pictures from the event. On the first, you can see Kripke in full action
(from left to right: Devitt, Putnam, Kripke, Burge):
On the second, Putnam and Kripke are arguing about relative identity (probably):

Hi, Joachim! This comment is totally off-topic, but I couldn't find your e-mail address, so I'm putting it here.
Do you remember a Karl Juhnke from Stony Brook University? You always used to kick my butt at chess and Settlers of Catan. Well, I have discovered a fabulous new strategy game I thought you would enjoy. It is called Arimaa. Google it, then come join us for a few games at http://arimaa.com/arimaa/gameroom/ . My handle is Fritzlein. I hope to see you there soon!
